Beta was the first widely used consumer video recording tape format. It was and is invented by Sony. However, no one is making Beta VCRs in this day and age.
Aficionados of Beta believe that the picture and sound quality of Beta is superior to VHS. Eventually VHS overtook Beta in the consumer market, ultimately leading to the almost complete disappearance of Beta machines and pre-recorded Beta tapes. The VHS format is currently in the demise mode with the advent and prevelance of the DVD format! However Absolute Beta Products continues to provide the worlds largest array of Betamax products.
